Introduction
- Meeting guidelines were shared
- Minutes - Phil
Actions & Matters Arising
- Tylers Court: No progress yet on campaign to enclose car park, or on possible Neighbourhood Watch for that neighbourhood
- Essex Close: Significant progress reported by Mo Yusuf. The rough-sleeper has gone from the pram shed. No tenants have been removed, but one tenant's partner has been identified as a source of difficulties. The council's messaging has reportedly been very effective. Closure orders (resticting access) still in progress and under review: progressed to court. Problem generally felt to be under control.
Police Report & discussion
- Staffing: Ben has left the team, but Lucy is returning. St James ward is significantly under strength leaving demands on our team. Mo Alyas (new PCSO) still doesn't have a uniform because of the Forest Gate fire, which has also impacted the level of abstractions. WF officers are being abstracted because Newham equipment was lost or damaged. Team at full strength with 2 PCSOs, 6 PCs and one (half?) a Sgt.
- Crime:
- VAWG: During the reporting period there were two rapes, two sexual assaults and two other sexual offences. The team had not yet been fully briefed about all of these.
- Burglary: 8 burglaries (4 residential) in 4 weeks.
- Theft: 42 in 4 weeks - includes pickpocketing and shoplifting
- Robbery: 4 in 4 weeks
- Theft from Motor Vehicle: 8 in 4 weeks
- Drug offences: 4 (1 possession with intent to supply)
- Homeless shoplifter operating in Greggs, Pret, Asda: Action: Emmanual, to support this individual.
- Mopeds: Specials have been addressing this. Our team seized 9 vehicles in one operation (insurance, tax, etc) and the Specials seized 17. Team has engaged with delivery services (Just Eat, Uber, etc) with some success. High Street regeneration expected to provide dedicated parking for mopeds and delivery riders. It was noted that modal filters can make it harder to pursue riders.Tom was to find out about whether the CCTV vans used to catch violators could be used more widely in crime prevention and detection.
Any Other Business
- Concern expressed about inconsiderate (dangerous?) cycling in pedestrian areas including High St. market. Options to restrict this may depend on having appropriate signage. Action: Jason to investigate.
- Cllr. Tom reported his son had had his mobile stolen.
- Drug dealing opposite Tesco at St James - team aware.
- The Bus Station is a hotspot for the congregation of school-age children, and there have been personal robberies. Team (Riz) to engage with British Transport Police (BTP) officers, and also Safer Transport officers for mutual support. Noted that many children passing through the bus station attend Holy Family (Catholic) school as the catchment is particularly wide. Ana's team, including Emmanuel will seek to engage with children there to offer diversionary activities.
- Concern raised about possible "gang" grooming targeting children at Willowfield School as seen from Essex Close.
- Mall staff reported a burglary targeting the Clarkes shop using angle grinders to make entry.
- Suggested team should invite school heads/representatives or school police officers to attend our meetings.
- Riz & Jason to provide relevant "noticeboard" information for use by Tom.
Ward Priorities Agreed
- Violence against Women & Girls
- Theft/Robbery
- Engaging with youth, e.g. at the Bus Station
- All to assist with recruitment to the Ward Panel meetings.
