Apologies from Jacquie Sheehy & Alice Taylor-Rugman

Matters Arising from previous minutes:

  1. E-scooters: 2 days of collaborative action planned (Delayed due to abstraction duties - protests and arms fair)
  2. Pavement cyclist - doesn’t appear to be a continuing problem.
  3. More frequent Ward Panel meetings - SNT unable to commit to at present - review in future
  4. ATM robberies - less of a problem recently, one bank (Lloyds) not cooperating with SNT. If problem spikes we will approach bank directly from WP

SNT Report

The team presentation (as PDF) is available here.

  1. Snatches of phones by cyclists - SNTs are collaborating together. 2x arrests recently. Either large groups or multiple groups, some coming from Hackney (hence reports up Coppermill Lane). Difficult to pin down days but usually early in morning or early tea time. SNT adjusting shifts and running ops.
  2. Violence against women and Girls (VAWG) - problems at top of High Street, sometimes from Uber type moped riders waiting for calls. SNT running ops as the Senior Leadership Team have made it a priority.
  3. 3x Community Protection Warnings given for ASB on High St.
  4. Male arrested for exposure on Coppermill Lane - had weapon. 2x stolen mopeds recovered. Problem with persistent beggars on Palmerston Rd.
  5. Shoplifting and theft still high. Robberies and burglaries have fallen.
  6. Short staffed because of abstractions to protests and arms fair.

Question:  What can residents do to help?
Answer:  Lots of stuff on social media but better to encourage people to report to Police.

Community Matters Week (w/c 4th October)

Ward Panel to choose 3 priorities. After discussion settled on VAWG, Snatches and Drugs.

Appreciation was expressed to SNT for their efforts in Carisbrooke Rd. James noted that people can report ASB issues via council website.

Essex Close

Sporadic activity still. SNT to investigate homeless person in stairwell. Problems in car park. SNT noted that to run an op in Essex Close requires significant personnel because of numerous gates/exits. Poor design for safety. James said cameras made more permanent.

Mo asked for letters to be sent out from L&Q to remind residents of issues and responsibilities - James to action.

Appreciation for Mo’s tireless devotion to making Essex Close safer was noted and appreciated.

Any Other Business:

  1. Helen and Phil noted that the Ward Panel Handbook was not considered too useful. More accessible good practice guidelines were needed.
  2. Phil had updated email distribution list. Had requested Stella Creasy to add to her newsletter to attract more interest in WP.

Next Meeting:

Tuesday 7th Dec, 6.30pm in person at Blackhorse Road Baptist Church.
