Police Report & discussion
- Staffing: The intention is to have a Town Centre Team, and a wider Ward Team. Current planning is for five extra officers; ten in all, though this is not yet confirmed - a Local Resource Planning Meeting is due in a few weeks. PCSO numbers may be increased significantly. Some wards including High Street and possibly Leytonstone are to be designated "Super wards" for resourcing.
- Crime report:
- 3 sexual offences: touching, "leering" and a historic rape
- 3 robberies (a decrease). One on ATM ("push & steal"); others mobile phones, often bicycle-based.
- Drugs: crime map shows more detections - not necessarily indicating more offences
- Zero burglaries!
- 11 new cameras, two monitored by the council. Includes 8 "nomad" cameras, all funded by the ward. Two are for distraction thefts near Halifax/Santander, affixed to lampposts. One near McDonalds has a blue light and public address. Facial recognition is a possibility, but costs are an issue.
- Complaint has been made about ASB on the path from Storey Road to Somers Road - camera possible? Drug dealing alleged.
- Street signs warning about common crimes are on order; awaiting delivery and installation.
- Warner Road: in response to a previous spate of burglaries there has been a letter drop to residents with contact details for the ASB team and police. Adjustments to street lighting being investigated.
- ASB: Essex Close reportedly significantly improved (#update: new problems reported since this meeting)
Any Other Business
- Report of a child (11/12) using an electric scooter in a way dangerous to pedestrians and the child himself. (#Update: PH has spoken to the child, who seems to have responded positively.)
- Wide-ranging discussion of Casey Report. Participants touched on:
- apparent shortcomings in HR & recruitment
- Representation of London (& WF) demographic in force
- Commissioner resisting some terminology in the report ("institutional racism")
- AC mentions there is a long-standing hotline for addressing conduct issues: "Rightline"
- discussion of the impact of "peer-pressure" on Met culture
Ward Priorities Agreed
- Violence Against Women & Girls
- Robbery/Theft person
